She was an educator, a missionary disciple, a staunch advocate for racial justice in our country, and a faith-filled Catholic who is a model for all of us as we strive to live our lives in faith. ![]() Sister Thea was a Franciscan Sister in the diocese of Jackson, Mississippi. We’ve also had a lot of fun around here!Īs we embark on Black History month, I encourage all of us to learn more about the great impact of people like Sister Thea Bowman. This has been a very special week to celebrate our school community. Because of this, I think Catholic Schools serve a more important purpose than ever, as they foster a great sense of faith and hope in our children and hope is one of the many things that will sustain us during difficult days. And please join me in honoring the start of Black History Month.Īs we honor our faith, our community, and those who have fought and continue to fight for racial equality in our country, I share the words of Sister Thea Bowman with you: “ Remember who you are and whose you are.” During these challenging days, it is important that we remember the journey we are all on to live our lives in Christ and that we turn to Him during our times of struggle.
